Here's to 2020.

Another year. A decade drawing to a close. And for the first time in years, I am at a loss as to what to write for the mandatory, year-end wrap-up post. Normally, this is the one post that I have already drafted in my head, right at the start of December. This time though, I quite frankly do not know what to write.

I could write about how the year has been, how much has happened, what I learnt from experiences and what I am looking forward to for 2020. But honestly, the thing is that I have nothing to say. Or rather, what I have to say is of no consequence at all.

Yes. There were a lot of things that happened. Yes. There were experiences. Yes. There were plenty of travels. Funny stories. Happy anecdotes. Milestones reached and celebrated. Snippets of sadness. Building patience and endurance. Making mistakes. Accepting fault. Learnings.
That’s what makes up a year doesn’t it. The growth that you see in yourself.

Already, I can sense the post turning philosophical. But then, most of my year-end wrap-ups are such. The idea of a clean slate, fresh starts, tends to bring out the deep thinker in me. [she generally doesn’t make an appearance otherwise].

The primary take-away from the last year, in a bigger sense the last decade is the growth that I have witnessed in myself. There is such a huge change from where I was in 2010 and where I am now at the brink of 2020 and I can see it, feel it and sense it in every pore of my being. There have been immense learnings along the way, moments of self-realization, understanding of strengths and weaknesses, letting go of things, people, and situations.

2019 was special.
In a lot of ways.
To know that one tiny human being can awaken the deepest of feelings in you, to make you realize that you will be and are capable of anything when it comes to him, to push you to greater limits every day and to cheer along with you, to shower you with unconditional, accepting love that has no strings attached, and to motivate you to do even your every day things a little better than before, to set and scale new standards is one of the biggest takeaways from this year. Nothing in this decade even comes close the learnings and changes that this tiny person has brought about in me.

And for that and for many more things, I am eternally grateful for this path and for the courage that I had when I embarked upon it.

For 2020, I wish for nothing but positivity. Everything else can be taken care of.

It is definitely a long road ahead. Filled with experiences and challenges. But if there is one thing that I am sure of, its that it will be worth it.

Here’s to a fresh start. A new beginning. Another decade.

Bring it on!

Another year. Another post. :) - Wrap up 2016!

I read somewhere, that a year changes you a lot. Its true. Its slow and its steady, but it does change you. The past few years have perhaps changed me a lot, but 2016 was the year that in all probability I accepted the changes in me.

When I started 2016, I was under the impression that it would be another 2015. 2015 had been awesome. 2016 at best can be termed as a mixed year. And it was. My wish for 2016 last New Year was very simple.

I wanted madness, magic and not much of the mundane.
You could say I got what I wanted, in short bursts. :) But definitely not in the way I expected.

I wanted more of the journeys, more of the fun and more of joy.
Travel was at a minimum this year, but on those short travels fun was had and there were some unexpected moments of joy.

I created a bucket list at the beginning of 2016. It was filled with some regular stuff and some out of the box stuff.
Out of the 19 odd items in my bucket list (most of which involved travel :-/) I completed 8 items fully and 2 items in half :P  so can we  make that 9 items in total? Not good enough. I know!
I, however, struck one major item off my bucket list. Sky diving :D :D  While it was fun, I’d much rather do the bungee again. :) I have no idea why I felt that way, because sky diving has been on my list for the longest time. There just wasn’t that same satisfaction as completing the bungee. :)

There were a lot of lessons this year. Some of which made me cynical, some which has left me smiling and some which I have taken to heart and resolved to work upon. :)

You know, I always feel and this year it has been so much more stronger, that the world was a much simpler and different place when we were kids. Or maybe we just weren’t exposed to the harsh realities. For 2017, I am very skeptical of making wishes, of making a bucket list. I am not really sure why.

This coming year, I hope I am much less judgmental of everything in general. I hope I don’t cause anyone any sort of hurt, either through words or through actions. I hope I finish up whatever tasks I take up and I hope I do them to my satisfaction and not just as a half-baked measure :). I hope to read more, travel more, become a well rounded person. I hope and wish I give my family and close friends, the importance that they deserve. I hope to realize and cherish the small blessings that life passes my way.

Just some basic wishes. :) some minor ones, some major ones. But all around just the fundamental.

For a change I am craving the mundane than the unusual. And I hope the ordinary turns into the extraordinary.

Wishing you all a Happy, Prosperous and Joyous 2017. Peace out! :)

2016 - a week gone by and a nice new shiny badge from BlogAdda :)

7 days down in 2016 and it has been an awesome week in 2016 so far. :)

Highlights of the week…

My New Years start was pretty darn good. Close Friends, Drizzles and the Fireworks. It’s a combination that cannot go wrong ever. :) Midnight wishes SG time with the family and friends who are as good as family and a temple visit on the evening of Jan 1st rounded it all up very well. :) :)

Last working day at Bank of Singapore was a couple of days ago. When I joined BOS, I was, more or less to say, floundering. Not knowing what I was getting into, plus I was going through a shitty personal time as well back then. Three months into the job, I was ready to quit. Honestly. And then, my manager for the better parts of my BOS journey, convinced me otherwise. He told me to take a break, come back rejuvenated and then start all over again. I did that. And then there was no looking back. I can safely say that BOS was one helluva journey. I have dipped my hands into so many aspects of the team there and have had the opportunity to learn so much there. I think it has made me evolve into a better professional at the end of the day and for that I will always thank my manager at the beginning of my stint in BOS.

I’m right now at HOME SWEET HOME. :) It has been about 7 months since I have come here. The first few hours at home, I’m like this dog who goes around sniffing each and every corner trying to grasp and mark its territory, wondering what has changed and how much. :) There is definitely no place like home as they say. Forced double helpings of all kinds of yummy food, loot from Kalam (read jackfruits, coconuts, guavas and bananas) and the fact that I am not doing one single thing. I eat, laze, read, sleep and repeat.

But the highlight of this week has to be the fact that my last post, was picked up by the good folks at BlogAdda for their TangyTuesday Picks :) … First ever time that has ever happened… and the high!! WHOA!! :) They have given me a nice shiny badge that I have updated the post with and a cute write up on their site.. So Yaaaayyy!! :)

Check this out..

So that’s been my week peeps :)
How has yours been? :)

The traditional wrap-up post for 2015 - the year that was!!

And so, we are back with the traditional year-end post.
I love traditions. They make me feel secure, that everything is right with the world at that moment. Be it daily, monthly or those randomly regular ones, they make me feel contented. Like those temple visits on festival days, or how it always rains on Christmas Eve. New dresses for special occasions, midnight birthday wishes, Appa’s rituals before the Shiva poojai in the morning, Amma’s chanting of the Lalitha Sahasranamam, the good morning and goodnight messages, the messages that come checking up on you, asking if lunch was done or whether you have reached a particular place, the hugs, or the random ruffles on the hair. I take note of quite a few of these traditions. I derive my sense of stability and comfort from them. I wait for them with an anticipation that belies the nonchalance I portray. Even if one of them gets missed or is out of place, I get antsy. A little nervous, like something is going wrong.
This year-end wrap up is like that. The year does not feel complete without one of these on the blog. It is a tradition that has come up over the last couple of years. A sort of wind-down on the happenings of the year. A way of looking back over the year that has been and one that will herald the New Year into our midst. I cannot miss this for any reason. :) Something about this makes me feel good when I write. :)
This year, 2015, has been a good one. Lots of fun was had, many trips were done, a bucket list item was checked off, and a few wishes have come true... All in all, a DARN GOOD YEAR!
I am thankful for this year. It has been a while since I felt about a year like that. I cannot remember the last time that I was happy that a particular year has gone well. This year however, I am grateful and appreciative of whatever it has sent my way.
I gave up making New Year resolutions a few years back. I just do not have the tenacity to stick onto them. They feel a lot like rules and I for one am not too fond of rules. Therefore, I put them down as wishes, things that I would like to do. This year has been one that I have managed to complete most of whatever I wished for. As I stated in my previous blog, I travelled a lot this year. Memorable ones, out of which three were road trips, two were to destinations I had previously travelled to, but still were more fun than the last times and on top of my list is the one where I checked off a much-awaited thing off my bucket-list. Yes! I am talking about the bungee jump. You can see that I’m quite proud of it :P I also managed to read a lot this year, all thanks to the Kindle I was gifted. I completed my reading challenge of 24 books in a year, another achievement that I am quite proud of.
This year there have been more of the fun moments than lessons, for which I am thankful. It has been a year of acceptance, one of letting go. It has been a year of knowing that there are things outside my control, things that I cannot do anything about. This year the regrets have been fewer, the smiles a lot more.
My wish for 2016 is quite simple.
For the coming year, I hope for more of the madness, magic and only some of the mundane.
I hope for more of the journeys, more of fun and more of joy all around.
I hope and wish all of you, oodles of ecstasy, and masses of good health, heaps of wealth and truckloads of cheer all year around! :)
I wish you all a wonderful year ahead, one where you live life to the fullest, one where you smile, look back and say, what a year it has been! :)
HAPPY NEW YEAR and MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU ;-)

And another year draws to a close...

Thus, another year ends …

The curtains on 2014 are drawing to a close on a year filled with a motley bag of happenings.  I do not really want to get very philosophical on this post, but my year-end posts always are, tinged with a bit of reflection. :-)

If I had to sum up 2014 in one word, I would have to say it was QUICK. It seems just like yesterday that we were out at ECP bringing in 2014. What seemed like a quirky start to the New Year involving hailing down unresponsive cabs and trip by the metro early in the morning, soon spiraled into one of the fastest years in recent times. So many things have happened, so many events have unfolded, and things are much clearer in so many aspects.

This year, filled with a multitude of happenings, will be a year that I can never forget and will be one of those years that I can look back and say that, 2014 in many ways will always be a very special year for me. There have been some awesome highs, some tragic lows, much deserved peace of mind, some well-warranted closures, a few nasty fights, some amazing get-togethers, and unforgettable moments. People who have come into my life, some who have exited from it, others whose value in my life has exponentially increased and a few others who have just made it a better place by being simply being there. There have been a few hard lessons learnt, some tough times dealt with - few in good ways and others in very childish ways. There has been a lot of giving up and letting go moments, fighting for what it’s worth moments, and knowing for sure this is what I want moments. There have also been some brilliant instances, a few revelations and a lot more happy bursts than I expected. There have been fewer regrets this year and for that, I am grateful. It has been a year that has been filled with lots of growing up, lots of reflection, lots of understanding of the person that I am turning into (and liking it btw) and lots of clarity in knowing what I want from my life.

It is crazy how all of that happened in just one single year. It has been a total mixed bag and a fun ride in 2014. Good while it lasted, and while it reached the peak somewhere during the middle of the year, and has sobered down a lot over the last few weeks, there’s always that anticipation tingling inside of me about things that are yet to come, plans that will be made and events that will unfold.

My love for new beginnings, have been spelt out enough on this blog. So no surprises that, I am looking forward to 2015.

2015, I hope, is filled with lots of happiness, good health, cheer and prosperity.

I hope the coming year will have lots of magic moments, dreams that will be fulfilled and madness in the quirkiest sense. I hope to start something anew and finish it. Take up new challenges. Grow up. I hope to have lots of travel. Go on road trips. Meet new people. Explore places. I hope to see sunrises. Contemplate over sunsets. I hope to revel in spots of sunshine, splashes of rain and the wind on my face. I hope to sweat it out and become more fit. I hope to dance until I drop. Write until I run out of ideas. And give into life!!! I wish to live life to the fullest and enjoy every single moment of it.

Here to a brand NEW YEAR ... Here's to 2015!!

Glasses clinking, Eyes twinkling and all guns ablaze!!

Gear up!! Pull out all stops. 2015, I am on my way!!!  :-) :-) :-)

"Gong Xi Fa Cai" for the Year of the Horse - Day 21 of the 100 Happy Days Challenge!!

Today’s happiness quota was fulfilled by attending this Chinese lunch at the Crystal Jade restaurant with the office colleagues. Singapore, as you all know, is a healthy mix of diverse cultures and just recently celebrated the Lunar New Year with all gung-ho. This year is the Year of the Horse and all around the place; you could see cutouts and miniature red and gold horses in a galloping frenzy, especially around the Chinatown area here. You can read more about the Chinese New Year / Lunar New Year here.

Coming back to the topic of today’s lunch – before the lunch, we started out by commending the New Year with the “traditional Lo Hei”, also known as “Prosperity Toss.” Yusheng (same thing in Chinese) is often served as part of a multi-dish dinner, usually as the appetizer due to its symbolism of "good luck" for the New Year.

These are the ingredients used and this is the meaning of the usage of each ingredient – directly and blatantly copied from Wikipedia.

When putting the yu sheng on the table New Year greetings are offered. “Gong Xi Fa Cai” meaning “Congratulations for your wealth” or “Wan Shi Ru Yi” meaning “May all your wishes be fulfilled”.
The fish is added, symbolizing abundance and excess through the year. “Nian Nian You Yu” meaning “Abundance through the year”, as the word "fish" in Mandarin also sounds like "Abundance".
The pomelo or lime is added to the fish, adding luck and auspicious value. “Da Ji Da Li” meaning “Good luck and smooth sailing”
Pepper is then dashed over in the hope of attracting more money and valuables. “Zhao Cai Jin Bao” meaning “Attract wealth and treasures”
Then oil is poured out, circling the ingredients and encouraging money to flow in from all directions. “Yi Ben Wan Li” meaning “Make 10,000 times of profit with your capital” or “Cai Yuan Guang Jin” meaning “Numerous sources of wealth”
Carrots are added indicating blessings of good luck. “Hong Yun Dang Tou” meaning “Good luck is approaching”. Carrot is used as the first character also sound like the Chinese character for red.
Then the shredded green radish is placed symbolizing eternal youth. “Qing Chun Chang Zhu” meaning “Forever young”. Green radish is used as the first character also sound like the Chinese character for green.
After which the shredded white radish is added - prosperity in business and promotion at work. “Feng Sheng Shui Qi” meaning “Progress at a fast pace” or “Bu Bu Gao Sheng” meaning “Reaching higher level with each step”
The condiments are finally added.
First, peanut crumbs are dusted on the dish, symbolizing a household filled with gold and silver. “Jin Yin Man Wu” meaning “Household filled with gold and silver”
Sesame seeds quickly follow symbolizing a flourishing business. “Sheng Yi Xing Long” meaning “Prosperity for the business”
Yu Sheng sauce, usually plum sauce, is generously drizzled over everything. “Tian Tian Mi Mi” Meaning “May life always be sweet”
Deep-fried flour crisps in the shape of golden pillows are then added with wishes that literally the whole floor would be filled with gold. “Man Di Huang Jin” meaning “Floor full of gold”…
Everyone then tosses the salad an auspicious seven times with loud shouts of Lo Hei and other auspicious New Year wishes. The ingredients are mixed by pushing them toward the center, an encouragement to push on the good luck of all at the table.

Interesting eh?  :-) So that’s what we did today.

It was my second time participating in this (the first time was around 2 years back at Citibank)… This one was fun :-) :-) really enjoyed the tossing of the ingredients… hopefully, luck will favor me better than last year! :-)

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Year of the Horse is upon us…

So…. Saddle up, Canter on and Gallop towards a year filled with Happiness, Peace and Prosperity ….

“Gong Xi Fa Cai” all you lovely people…

The mandatory 2013 wrap-up post !! :) :)

And thus we come to the end of another year, and the beginning of another yearly wrap up post on this space! :-)

I remember the start of 2013. I was so so so sick of 2012 that I was literally counting down the seconds, and waiting for 2013 to start and I wanted to make the most of it. I had this whole checklist planned and things that I wanted to do and cross off my list. I even had a mid-way sorta post roundabout my birthday telling you all what I have been up to until then...

You ask me what happened after that?  After May? :-) …

Well, what do I say?

“I had plans.. big big plans!! But then, life intervened!” :-P :-P

Naah, nothing of that sort… I just became a big ol’ bag of lazybones, and stayed in the comfort zone and refused to budge from there, literally transforming into a couch potato. Didn’t feel the need or the push to do anything, and was so happy staying in my metaphorical couch and pajamas! Didn’t read as many books as I wanted to, didn’t go out as much as I wanted to, didn’t write as much as I wanted to and gave all and sundry the excuse that I was contemplating the realities of life ;-) :-P

And contemplate I did! :P Wrote a couple of preachy posts about the 20s and then wrapped myself up in a cocoon, gave in to excuses of not going out anywhere and not doing anything new, save a few times! :-) Either ways, I did enjoy the time and the space and the introspections!! ;-)

You know, how sometimes you look back at a period of time and you think, did this really happen? Did I actually experience all this? That’s how 2013 was to me...  Honestly, the past year seems like a big blur to me. It went by so fast that before I knew it, it was a half year and now it is the year end… this year has not been without its fair share of happenings though… Now as I think about it, I realize how much has happened this past year, how much of it I was a part of and how much I was a spectator to… Nothing world-shattering, but still pretty much adds to the “lessons learnt” bag! :-) If 2012 taught me that things can change in the blink of an eye, 2013 taught me how fragile all interactions are… It made me realize that everything is a two-way street... And by that I mean, EVERY.SINGLE.THING. …. Family. Relationships. Friendships. Work life. You give. You expect. You take. Simple logic.

I always like the start of a new year. It’s symbolic. It’s like a chance of a clean slate in a very figurative way. Newfangled experiences. Fresh starts.

My wish for this NEW YEAR…

In the words of Neil Gaiman…
“May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you're wonderful, And don't forget to make some art -- write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.

I hope you will have a wonderful year, That you'll dream dangerously and outrageously, That you'll make something that didn't exist before you made it, That you will be loved and that you will be liked, And that you will have people to love and to like in return.

And, most importantly (Because I think there should be more kindness and more wisdom in the world right now), That you will, when you need to be, be wise, and that you will always be kind.”

SO EVERYBODY OUT THERE ...

HAVE A ROCKING SOOPER-DOOPER AWESOMATIC MAGNIFICENTLY FANTABULOUS 2014… :) :)

And make the most of it ...  :-) :-)

I am planning to! :-D :-D

A walk in the rain...

I like rains.

Not the heavy downpours. Oh well! Them too sometimes! But only when I am in my cozy room with a hot mug of tea by my side watching the rains pelt down!!

But mostly I love the light drizzles. Especially at night. When you can see them twinkling under the light of the lamp posts. When you can walk under them and not really get soaked to the skin, but get just a little wet, like you have been through one of those rapids or those fun rides at an amusement park. The ones that leave you glistening like you just had some dew drops fall on you. Those ones.

They are magical. They are captivating.

They make me feel special. Alive almost. When they hit me, I like to hold my face up to the sky and have them fall on my face, each one rolling off like they belong there but then again like they don’t. Reminiscent of how invariably they leave their mark even if they have rolled off. A streak of the water droplets running through my face. And not in the form of tears. Now if that’s not bliss, I don’t know what is!

My Christmas – 2012 was like this.

Faint drizzles, a solitary avenue, flashes of rain shimmering under the yellow light of the lamp posts, melodious music from the phone I carry with me always and a slow, silent, introspective walk. It was beautiful. It filled me with a sense of calm. A sense of peace after a long time.

A week after that was New Year’s. Readers of this space will know how much I have been looking forward to 2013.

These things are significant to me. Festive Days, New Year’s, Birthdays, Key dates, Milestones… they are important to me.  To me, they mark a new beginning. A fresh start. At any time during the year. It’s my way of seeing that things can start afresh however bad they have been so far.

New Year’s was close to perfect as well. It drizzled again. I held my face up to the sky.

It’s definitely a new beginning.

A short post to say that "I am Alive" and oh yeah - Happy 2012!! :) :)

Err.. Hello.. Knock Knock!
Yes! I am very much alive and all is well and all that!
Happy 2012 to you too! Right, Ok! I know it’s almost the end of January and that I am just wishing you all (or whoever reads this blog nowadays!). But then, I just showed up here! After a long time. And there was no mandatory New Year post this time so if you think I can just start writing without wishing you a very happy 2012, then you’re mistaken. No! I am not being defensive! Just telling you!! Alright! Ok then! :D
My last post as usual was a while back and since then, nothing much has changed... Except that it’s a new year already! And touted to be the year that the world will end or some such thing! But let’s not discuss that! Let’s discuss what I have been up to, that I have neglected this space for more than 2 months. No big story or anything of that sort, just the usual stupid ol’ laziness!
I keep blogging in my mind all through the day, but when I sit in front of the laptop, nothing comes out and I don’t have the interest to sit and pen down whatever went through my mind! Weird eh!
2011 was a pretty good year compared to 2010. And it was a fast year. Like I literally saw how time flies! 2011 was nothing special in terms of what happened. But it was good overall. Close friends expanded their families with some adorable lil’ ones, I made some new friends, I introspected a lot, had a lot of good times with friends, had a couple of good holidays and of course a steady job which was the most important thing on my list last year! :) So all in all, it was great. Wrapped up 2011 with an awesome holiday with the folks back in India and started 2012 with another holiday to Langkawi in Malaysia with a few friends.
So that’s pretty much what I have been up to… How have you all been? :) :)
And yes! Ok! I will post more often. Like always, that’s on my list of resolutions. Oh yes! I have a few resolutions this year too! But until I kinda get started on them all, I am gonna keep mum about it! :D
You’ll get to know about it, I promise!
Yes, 2012 does seem to be a promising year with a great start!
Fingers crossed! :)

Goodbye 2010... here's to 2011 !!! :-) :-)

Yes!! This is the mandatory new year recap post … rather it’s a tad late so let’s make this the new year post and the new year recap post all combined into one!! :-)

So how was your New Years Eve? Did you go out party and have fun? :-)

Mine was very different from all these past few years.. :-) I slept off at 10:30.. Lol.. Yes! I know! It’s unheard of.. Or unlike me as most people who know me would say..! But for a change… this was one of the quietest new years I have had! My folks are here and we did have some grand plans of hitting Clarke Quay or Marina Bay Sands here to see the countdown to the New Year… but at the end of the day, I just wanted to head back home, put up my feet and just relax and bring in the New Year. But I could not even keep my eyes open… :P I dozed off by 10:30, and hubby woke me up at 11:55 for the countdown.. So I wished everyone around me a very happy new year and promptly slept off again! :-) Okie Okie! I know what you’re all thinking… Yes I am lil’ bit ashamed of myself too… having slept off so early.. makes me feel as though I have aged a decade :P but well…. I am actually not THAT ashamed to tell you the truth :P :P I got my sleep… and I feel much much relaxed than I have all these days… :-) So there!!

Anyways enough about my New Years eve!! :P :P

And all of you who had a rocking countdown, good for you guys!!! :-)

So let’s get to the recap now…

I had a pretty good year in 2010.

I made some great friends… I got back on the stage after a long time and did a couple of dances … I got a job towards the last quarter of the year… and I had some awesome times with some friends :-) that in a nutshell was my 2010.

I realized that no matter how serious life gets, you will constantly need the company of people whom you can completely be stupid with. :-) :-) and I have those people in my life… :-) and I love them to bits… :-) Life is never going to be the same without them!!

I lost some important people in my life and I still can’t believe that they are gone!

I gave up on some people and decided that if they don’t want me in their life, I don’t want to be in theirs either… :-) [That was quite a late realization, I know!]

I got back in touch with some old friends from school .. thanks to facebook.. :) and that reminds me… Social Network is definitely the best movie of the year!!

I learnt how satisfying it feels when you finally get something you’ve been yearning for ages! And I love the feeling!! I never want to let go of it… I hope I don’t have to in the following year too…

The past year had more ups than downs compared to the year before that so all in all 2010 rocked…
Good times, great people and some rocking moments… loved most of the year!!

Now here’s to 2011…

I just simply hope 2011 is as good as 2010 maybe even better… :-)

I hope I have a steady job all through the year!

I hope I have some good rocking times as I did in 2010.

I hope there is a lot of happiness and peace and a decent amount of prosperity in the days to come. And this is not just for me, but for all of you all too..!! :-)

So here’s to 2011, and here’s hoping that it would be as good as good can get ;-)

Oh yes! And I hope to blog more… if not everyday at least once in 2 days or even once a week… but 4-5 blogs at least in a month. I have learnt that making tall promises in this aspect is not a good thing ;-)

So here’s wishing you all a very very happy 2011 & may you have all good health, good cheers and prosperity for all the days to come..!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Love and peace!!
